Overview
This technology-based, or e-learning, module was designed and developed to help potential travelers to Belize gain a basic understanding of the country’s history, geography, districts, cultures, and tourism industry. It contains self-directed interactions and utilizes videos, animations, and gamification as learning tools. Learners can self-navigate through the five topics and take a game-based quiz to test their knowledge.

Problem and Solution
Belize has emerged as a sought-after travel destination, drawing visitors both through direct travel and as a notable port of call for various cruise lines. Despite its growing popularity, a significant challenge persists as many travelers are often misinformed about Belize as a country. The intricacies of its location, rich cultural tapestry, and diverse geography are frequently misunderstood by tourists. As Belize continues to enchant visitors, a more accurate understanding of its multifaceted identity is essential to fully appreciate the richness it offers to discerning travelers.
The challenge of travelers being frequently misinformed about Belize can be effectively addressed through the implementation of an informative e-learning experience. This unit aims to provide potential travelers with a comprehensive understanding of the unique aspects that define Belize, ensuring a more accurate portrayal of the country. By offering insights into Belize’s geographical location, diverse cultural heritage, and distinctive ecosystems, the e-learning platform aims to dispel misconceptions and enhance travelers’ knowledge. Participants will gain valuable insights into the history and geopolitical landscape, the significance of various cultural communities, and the ecological wonders that make Belize a standout destination. Ultimately, this educational initiative seeks to empower travelers with the knowledge necessary to appreciate Belize’s authenticity, fostering a more enjoyable and culturally enriching travel experience for all those eager to explore this captivating destination.
Storyboard
Iterations
The original module only consisted of lesson 1, the five self-navigating topics. To increase interactivity, the second iteration led to the development of a separate welcome and conclusion page and the addition of the quiz game. The final iteration sought to add differentiated resources with the addition of lesson 2, a video-based overview of the content.
For the first iteration, I was the subject matter expert; having been born in Belize and having developed a familiarity with the topics discussed in the unit. For the second iteration, 5 additional Belizean nationals, of 3 differing generations, were enlisted as subject matter experts and as participants for testing the module. For the final iteration, volunteers from a Facebook group for Belizean nationals were enlisted to test the final product and provide feedback on the learning experience.
